A LaFayette man underwent surgery to have a kidney removed after he was shot early Saturday following a fight at a Lee County night club, police said.
Vierra James, 26, was injured when several suspects opened fire on a group of men about 3 a.m. at 44th Court off 44th Avenue southwest in Lanett, said Lanett Police Detective Tifton Dobbs.
The shooting occurred about 30 minutes after a fight broke out outside Club Roc on Highway 29, Dobbs said. That argument started over a club patron's ex-wife. Club security guards used pepper spray to break up the brawl and the crowd dispersed, Dobbs said.
Several men, including James, went to the 44th Court address to wash off the toxic spray. That's when three vehicles occupied by several suspects pulled up. The occupants opened fire, striking James in the side. No one else was injured.

James was rushed to George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital where doctors removed one of his kidneys. Dobbs said James is fine.
Police are close to making arrests in the shooting, said Dobbs.
"We have several suspects," Dobbs said. "I'd say we'll make between 8-12 arrests."
