Russell County accident takes life of Salem, Ala., man

Travis J. Harris, a 20-year-old Salem, Ala., man, was killed in a single-car accident Tuesday night.

The car left County Road 49 and rolled over in the Hatchechubbee area close to 5 p.m.

"I declared Harris dead at 7:55 p.m. in The Columbus Medical Center," said Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry. "He had suffered multiple injuries."

Harris, of 4704 U.S. Highway 80 West, was one of five persons in the car. Sumbry said Harris was not the driver. "The other four have been hospitalized," Sumbry said. "One was a baby and I believe has been flown to Atlanta for medical treatment."

The Alabama State Patrol is continuing the accident investigation.
