Rats, it's Mummies vs. Skirts

I'm torn between watching "Sicko" and "Ratatouille" this weekend. Although I'm pretty sure if I really saw a rat sniffing around an open pot of food in a restaurant, I would get sick-o. I'll probably opt for the Michael Moore documentary, since I expect it'll leave theaters first. Or maybe I'll see both, since this weekend is my last chance to clear a film off of my To See list before "Transformers" arrives. Details: 706-571-3456.

Saturday gets tricky. As patriotic as I am, I'm not all wistful about fireworks, yet Fort Benning's show is the best such event around. At the very least, I'll head out for some of the earlier festivities — the funk band Here Come the Mummies, who play in full cloth wrap, look like an absolute trip. Entertainment starts at 5 p.m., with the Mummies on at 7:30. It's free. Details: 706-545-3512.

I'll duck out of the fireworks in time to catch Athens, Ga.'s Modern Skirts at The Loft later. A pop act in the vein of Ben Folds or Guster, the Skirts have become one of the most buzzing acts in the college town. The Galen Kipar Project opens around 9:30 p.m., and cover is $5.
