A Rainey day for new music

JSP Records is releasing a remastered, annotated discography of Columbus blues legend Gertrude "Ma" Rainey today. The five-disc set features 111 tracks by the woman who's called the Mother of the Blues, and it carries a suggested retail price of $30.

Other new releases of note include Suzanne Vega's New-York-themed song cycle, "Beauty and Crime," and alternative cowpunkers the Meat Puppets' "Rise to Your Knees" -- the first record in 12 years featuring both of the band's formative brothers, Chris and Curt Kirkwood.
