Auburn taking absentee ballot requests for Aug. 28 school tax vote

The city of Auburn has begun accepting applications for absentee ballots for its 2007 Special Municipal School Tax Election on Aug. 28.

The Auburn Board of Education is seeking a 7-mill increase in school property tax for residents inside the city limits. The city schools currently receive 24 mills, the 21st highest school property millage in Alabama.

Phenix City is holding a similar school property tax vote on the same day.

Applications for absentee ballots cannot be accepted after Aug. 23, 2007, five days prior to the election, although the completed ballots can be received up to and on Election Day, Aug. 28
