Chris Wright and Katie Deal present "A Tribute to Irving Berlin: In Song and Dance" at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 in the Springer Opera House, 103 10th St.
Wright and Deal met, fell in love and were married at the Springer last year. They decided to offer their talents to help the American Red Cross' West Central Georgia Chapter.
"This show is an important fundraiser for the Red Cross in the aftermath of its month-long response to the March 1 tornadoes that devastated parts of Muscogee, Stewart and Talbot counties," said Mitzi Oxford, who is organizing the event. "During that time, the chapter distributed almost 2,000 meals, 15,500 snacks and more than 350 clean-up kits. Red Cross nurses went door-to-door in many neighborhoods to provide basic first aid and mental health counseling. Our goal is to replace supplies and other resources depleted by that mass care operation." The show, besides showcasing Berlin's songs, tells his story, including his philanthropic efforts for the Red Cross.
"A Tribute to Irving Berlin" will including hors d'ouevres and cocktails in the Springer's Grand Lobby, a silent auction in the Player's Saloon and the performance in the Emily Woodruff Hall.
