Help fund for family of Randy Newton setup at CB&T

A fund has been set up at Columbus Bank & Trust to help the family of Randy Newton pay for his memorial service and other arrangements, an aunt of the slain Columbus man said today.

The aunt, Sharon Dennard, said she set up the "Special Fund for Randy Newton" to help his survivors cope with the expenses they're now facing. Newton's funeral is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion AME Church, 12 Mt. Zion St., Seale.

Newton, 21, and Bryan Kilgore, 20, were fatally shot Friday night outside Columbus' Cross Creek Apartments, 3911 Steam Mill Road, police said. Investigators are searching for a suspect.

Services for Kilgore will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Cascade Hills Church, 727 54th St., Columbus. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Boulevard.

A special gathering for Kilgore's Columbus State University baseball teammates and other athletes and friends will be 4 p.m. in the President's Suite of CSU's Lumpkin Center.

The Kilgore family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bryan Kilgore Memorial Scholarship Fund at CSU.
