House passes bill with $1 million in transportation funds for 2nd District

A bill that passed the U.S. House of Representatives Wednesday has more than $1 million in it for transportation projects across southwest Georgia, including Columbus.

The $50.7 million fiscal year 2008 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development bill has $1.1 million for the 2nd Congressional District, said Rep. Sanford Bishop. It has $450,000 for drainage problems at U.S. 84 and Ga. 39/91 in Donalsonville. Another $450,000 is slated for widening on Talbotton Road between Seventh and Hilton avenues.

The bill now proceeds to a Senate and House conference committee later this year.
