Phenix City's Lakewood Elementary sets orientation series starting tonight

Lakewood Elementary will host orientation for kindergarteners tonight at 6 p.m., giving parents the opportunity to ask questions about school issues including transportation, traffic patterns and lunch prices.

Principal Nicey Eller said parents and students will also have a chance to "sneak a peek" at classrooms and visit with teachers.

Superintendent Larry DiChiara will speak to parents and teachers about the Aug. 28 vote for a 7-mill increase in property taxes.

This is the first of several grade level orientations at Lakewood before school starts Aug. 9, including:• First-graders, Aug. 3 at 5:30 p.m.• Second-graders, Aug. 2 at 5:30 p.m.• Third-graders, July 31 at 6 p.m. • Fourth-graders, Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. • Fifth-graders, Aug. 7 at 6 p.m.
