Couple carjacks pickup truck

There was a carjacking in Columbus early Wednesday morning.

Columbus police say that at 1:50 a.m. Antonio Garcia and Gudalupe Garcia were heading north along Second Ave. in Columbus in a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup truck. At the corner of Manchester Expressway and Second Ave. a man and woman waved them down.

The couple asked Antonio Garcia for a ride to Phenix City. They told the driver they would give gas money. Garcia agreed.

The male passenger then asked Antonio Garcia to stop first at the Shell service station at the intersection of River road and Manchester Expressway so he could purchase some items before going to Phenix City.

After leaving the store, the man pulled out a handgun and forced Garcia to drive to the marina off River Road. The couple then took the truck as well as a cell phone and wallet from Gudaloupe Garcia.

Columbus police are investigating.
