Two Muscogee County Prison inmates escape

Law enforcement officials are searching for two Muscogee County Prison inmates who escaped from a work detail at Double Churches Park this afternoon.

Deputy Warden Ray Covington of the Muscogee County Prison says the inmates ran off at around 2:45 p.m. The inmates are Michael Patterson and Jason Miller.

Both men are described as white men with brown hair and blue eyes.

Patterson is 5-foot-7 and weighs 190 pounds. Miller stands 6-foot-3 and weights 161 lbs. Witnesses told authorities that the inmates may have been picked up in a black Ford F-150.

Covington said the inmates on this detail were likely cutting grass and picking up trash in the park.

"We believe that there's a possibility that they could be in the area," Covington said.

Columbus police, Muscogee County Sheriff's deputies, Muscogee County Marshal's deputies and Muscogee County Prison officials are involved in the search.
