Radio Controlled Model Boat and Seaplane Regatta at Callaway Gardens to be held September 5
Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga., will host the second annual Radio Controlled Model Boat and Seaplane Regatta during the 11th annual Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival early next month.
The races will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5. A parade of these remote control boats will take place on Robin Lake Beach Friday evening, September 4, prior to the traditional Balloon Glow.
Expect to see sailboat races and competitions for utility boats, with barges and tug boats maneuvering around a pre-determined course and performing demonstration runs, according to a press release. Also, fast electric and gas powered boats will be racing on nearby Martin Lake.
On land there will be a display of participating model boats and a 40’ x 24’ water pool for small model boat activities. This year, for the first time, there will be model sailboats for youngsters to build, decorate and race on the water pool, the release said.
Prizes will be awarded for “best in show” as well as first, second and third place awards for class, type and event as well as a children’s sailboat race winner. There is an entry fee.
