U.S. Army International Sniper Competition comes to Benning tomorrow

The competition designed to identify the world’s premier team of snipers returns Thursday to Fort Benning for a week of sharp shooting action.

The Ninth Annual U.S. Army International Sniper Competition will run until Thursday, Oct. 22, with events taking place at various locations across post.

A wide range of skills will be tested during the competition and the winning team will be the one that demonstrates the highest level of proficiency in all tasks.

The following is a list of spectator-friendly events throughout the competition provided by Fort Benning’s public affairs office:

Thursday, Oct. 15, 1:30 p.m.: Day Snap and Movers. During this event competitors will shoot at laterally-moving targets.

Friday, Oct. 16, 11 a.m.: Defensive Shoot. For this event, competitors will be in makeshift, hidden structures engaging targets, but will be attacked by an enemy force and will have to move from those positions to pistol targets.

Saturday, Oct. 17, 11:30 a.m.: Unknown Distance: Competitors will be shooting at ranges where they have to determine the distance to the target and then engage the target.

Monday, Oct. 19, 3 p.m.: Shoot Out. This event tests competitors’ abilities to size targets at certain distances.

Wednesday, Oct. 21, 11 a.m.: Combat Pistol. Competitors will fire pistols at moving targets.
