Fort Benning's annual Oktoberfest this weekend, open to the public

Fort Benning's annual Oktoberfest celebration at Uchee Creel Army Campground and Marina will take place this weekend.

The public is invited to the festival, which open at 4 p.m. Friday with a keg tapping at 5:45 p.m.

Saturday’s events will include a 10K cross country challenge at 9 a.m. Online pre-registration for the cross country challenge is now open. Register by clicking on the link at the side of this page. Participants may also register on site the morning of the race from 7 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.

Other Saturday events will include a volksmarch, traditional German sports and game, an outdoor family movie, and best dressed dog, best dog trick and dog/owner lookalike contests.

The Gootman Band and Dancers and the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCOE) Band -- formerly the Infantry Band -- will perform throughout the day on Oct. 17.

Vendors selling authentic German food and drinks will be on site.

With the purchase of a $5 wristband children will have unlimited access to inflatables. There will also be a number of free activities to include hayrides, pontoon boat rides, the pumpkin patch and arts and crafts.

Admission and parking are free. A free shuttle service from main post to Uchee Creek will be in operation throughout the weekend.

Activities will end at 11 p.m. Oct. 16 and 17. Activities will start at noon on Sunday, and end at 6 p.m.
