Boy Scouts to honor Columbus surgeon

Dr. Carlton Savory, Hughston Clinic orthopedic surgeon, will receive today the 2009 Distinguished Citizen Award from the Boy Scouts of America’s Chattahoochee Council.

Every year since 1981, the local group recognizes a top leader who reflects Boy Scout values and provides outstanding service in the community.

Savory served 20 years in the U.S. Army and now practices at Columbus’ Hughston Clinic and Phenix City’s Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital — which he also co-owns with several other Hughston Clinic physicians. He specializes in adult reconstructive surgery and joint replacement surgery.

He is the 28th recipient of the award. Past recipients include Dr. Jack Hughston, Aaron Cohn, Marvin Schuster, A.J. McClung, Larry Sanders and Jack Pezold.
