Democrats to honor Milton Hirsch. Frank Martin and Maretta Taylor at Jefferson-Jackson dinner

Three Columbus leaders will be recognized Oct. 27 at the Muscogee County Democratic Party's third annual Jefferson-Jackson Gala.

Former Congressman Jack T. Brinkley Sr. will present the Jack T. Brinkley Sr. Service Award to former Columbus Councilor and state representative Milton Hirsch, former Columbus Mayor Frank Martin, and former state representative Maretta Taylor.

Attorney and nonprofit MidTown Inc. Director Teresa Pike Tomlinson will deliver a keynote address and Columbus State University Young Democrats will offer a tribute to the late U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy.

Held at the Columbus Convention & Trade Center, 801 Front Ave., the event begins with a social hour at 6:30 p.m.

Among the 2010 candidates expected to attend are Rep. DuBose Porter, Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker, former Gov. Roy Barnes, former Labor Commissioner David Poythress, Ray City Mayor Carl Camon, state Sen. Gail Buckner, Gary Horlacher, Ken Hodges, state Rep. Rob Teilhet, and R.J.Hadley.
