Two men were shot Tuesday in Opelika.
Opelika Police Capt. Allan Elkins said two men from Alexander City, Ala., were on the 600 block of Edmon Avenue sometime that afternoon when a man came from an apartment on the block and confronted them.
The suspect pulled a handgun on the two 24-year-olds and told them to "give it up."
Instead, the two men tried to run away, and one victim was shot in the lower back. A bullet also went through the second victim's left hand and struck him in the left knee.

The suspect tried to take one of the victim's car but was unsuccessful, Elkins said. He then jumped into another vehicle and fled with two other men.
The two victims were brought to the East Alabama Medical Center. Elkins was uncertain of their conditions Thursday afternoon.
Elkins said the person responsible will be charged with assault in the second degree, attempted murder and two counts of robbery. Under Alabama law, trying to rob a citizen is considered robbery, as a charge of attempted robbery does not exist in the state, Elkins said.
The case remains under investigation.
