Opelika man pistol-whipped, robbed on way to work

An Opelika man was hit in the face with a pistol and robbed Tuesday while on his way to work.

The man, who is in his 20s, was walking near the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Pleasant Drive in Opelika around 8 p.m. CDT when he was approached by four men, said Opelika Police Capt. Allan Elkins.

One of the men was armed with a pistol. He began hitting the victim on the face and head. The victim fell to the ground, and the three other suspects then stole his cell phone and wallet, which contained $75.

Police are investigating.
