Several men tried to rob a Pizza Hut employee Friday while he was delivering an order to a Columbus home.
Police were called to the Pizza Hut on Manchester Expressway around 9:15 p.m. A delivery man told the officer a group of young men tried to rob him just moments earlier.
The restaurant had been called to deliver pizza to an address on Dozier Street, which is off River Road. When the 48-year-old victim arrived at the home, he saw a man sitting on the porch, said Police Lt. Richard Gaines.
Gaines said “several men” — one of whom had a gun — then approached the delivery man and tried to rob him. That’s when a truck passed by, causing the men to flee, he said.

Nothing was taken, and the pizza man was not injured. It was later determined the address was a vacant house, Gaines said.
Police are investigating.
