A Fort Benning soldier was robbed and assaulted at around midnight Monday, police said.
According to a Columbus police report, the 25-year-old man was near the intersection of First Avenue and Fifth Street when he was approached by two men.
The soldier was struck on his face and thigh with an unknown object before he was robbed. Police did not say what was taken.
One of the suspects was about 25 years old, with a full beard and was wearing a hoodie. There was no description of the second man.

The soldier was taken to The Medical Center for treatment.
The case remains under investigation.
