Update: Flowers to retire from Dougherty High

Charles Flowers has decided to retire from his position as coach and teacher at Dougherty High School in Albany.

Flowers told his players Monday morning of his decision to retire from Dougherty effective at the end of the 2009-10 school year.

Flowers coached at Dougherty for three seasons, compiling a 13-17 record.

Flowers coached locally at Shaw High for 14 seasons with a record of 124-45. He went 84-9 over a seven-year stretch from 1999 to 2005. He led the Raiders to an undefeated season and the Class AAAA state championship in 2000.

He left Shaw after the 2005 season to become the Muscogee County School District system-wide athletic director. He remained there before taking over at Dougherty prior to the 2007 season.
