The Crawford Volunteer Fire Department in Russell County, Ala. has received at $34,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to purchase new equipment.
The $34,577 grant will be awarded under the 2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, according to a press release sent out by Congressman Mike Rogers.
According to the Homeland Security Department, which administers the grant, the purpose of the program is to award funding directly to fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations.
The awards aim to enhance first responders’ ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first-responder personnel, with respect to fire-related hazards.
