The Muscogee County Board of Elections and Registrations delayed any decision for two weeks on the proposed voting precinct changes.

The unanimous decision came from the five-member board after the plan to reduce precincts from 48 to 28 was opposed by the NAACP, a member of the school board, the Mucogee County Marshal's Office and other residents.

During the 90-minute meeting, Edward DuBose, president of the Georgia State Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, asked the board to delay the proposal and start over. He would like to see the board take suggestions to communities in town hall meetings just as officials did for information on proposed sales tax.

Margaret Jenkins, chairwoman of the board, said there is no requirement for the board to hold public hearings and noted the precinct information was printed in the newspaper.
