In a move that could reduce the number of dogs and cats destroyed each year, Safe Haven Animal Rescue has asked the Columbus Animal Control & Care Center for homeless animals.
Safe Haven rescues animals in Harris, Meriwether and Troup counties even though it currently doesn't have a facility to house them. Animals picked up by the group are placed in foster homes until they can be adopted.
Chris Brown, special enforcement manager for the city of Columbus, said the city already has an agreement with PAWS Humane Inc. to take animals without a home.
Brown has presented the request to the city for consideration.
