Greg Mortenson, co-author of "Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace … One School at a Time," will be at the Columbus State University Lumpkin Center at 7 p.m. March 22, according to the Chattahoochee Valley Libraries, which recently had to cancel a Mortenson appearance that drew considerable local interest.
The program will be free, and ticket holders are asked to arrive early, between 6 and 6:30 p.m. At 6:30, those without tickets will be admitted until all the seats are filled.
Mortenson is the co-founder and executive director of the nonprofit Central Asia Institute. After climbing Pakistan’s K2 mountain in 1993, he devoted his life to community-based education programs for girls in remote mountain regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Mortenson also founded Pennies For Peace and wrote the bestseller "Stones into Schools: Promoting Peace with Books, Not Bombs, in Afghanistan and Pakistan."
