The American Red Cross says the record-breaking snowstorm in the Northeast has created an urgent need for platelet donors. Regular platelet donors have not been able to make it to centers to donate.
Platelets are the clotting factor in blood and are frequently given to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment.
People here interested in donating should contact the Red Cross at 706-323-5614.
For folks who wish to donate whole blood, there will be a blood drive on Feb. 17 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m at Columbus State University and Feb. 25 from 2 p.m. at 7 p.m. at North Highland Assembly of God Church, 7300 Whittlessey Blvd.
