Yes, CJ Favre, Jackson's handler, is related to Brett Favre, the Minnesota Vikings' quarterback.
They are first cousins, says Marilu Novy, who is in New York with Jackson and Favre as they get ready for the 134th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
Jackson, a Portuguese water dog owned by Marilu Novy of Columbus, is in New York City to compete in the 134th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in Madison Square Garden. He will compete against 18 other Portuguese water dogs Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. Jackson, says Novy, has a pretty good chance to win Best of Breed because he is the No. 3 Portuguese water dog in the country and took that prize Feb. 5 in an Atlanta show.
Novy said Sunday's travel plans were made even more stressful because her husband, George, recently had reconstructive surgery on his ankle. He's on crutches, and that made going through the airport a little bit more hectic.
Highlights of the breed competitions can be seen on the Westminster Kennel Club's Web site.
The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show can be seen at 8-9 p.m. on the USA Network and 9-11 p.m. on CNBC on Monday, when the hound, toy, non-sporting and herding groups will compete. The Tuesday competition is 8-11 p.m. on the USA Network. The sporting, working and terrier groups will compete. The Best in Show will conclude the show.
