Several people attended a community meeting Thursday night at East Columbus Magnet Academy.
The meeting focused on keeping children safe. Two reverends spoke to the crowd of some 30 people about prayer and the Front Porch Patrol. A Columbus police officer also spoke about the Neighborhood Watch program.
"A family that prays together, stays together," said the Rev. Delta Outley. "I really feel as though we're family."
Outley encouraged the group to spend time each fourth Sunday praying for children's safety.
The Rev. Valerie Thompson spoke about the Front Porch Patrol, encouraging people to be "nosy neighbors" and watch children as they walk to school.
"We need to be watching what's in our communities," Thompson said. "We need to know our neighbors again. We need to know who's living next to us."
