Dr. Burnis D. Breland, the director of pharmacy for Columbus Regional Healthcare, is urging residents to get the H1N1 vaccine.
"The 2009 H1N1 vaccine has been tested . Now that mass vaccinations have begun, it has been shown to be effective and safe as other vaccines," he said.
Breland's son, a college student, became ill with the virus which evolved to severe pneumonia. His son suffered weight loss, disorientation and a high fever. He ended up in the hospital.
