AUBURN, Ala. -- Quarterback Tyrik Rollison is planning to transfer from Auburn to Sam Houston State, his father, Michael Kelly, told AuburnSports.com Wednesday.
Rollison, who was the prize of Gene Chizik's first recruiting class and presumptive future starter, posted a message on his Facebook page earlier in the day that read: "MOVING ON FROM AUBURN...I APPRECIATE EVERYONE WHO IS SUPPORTING ME.''
An Auburn athletics spokesman was checking into the situation as of Wednesday afternoon.
A dual-threat four-star recruit from Sulphur Springs, Texas, Rollison came close to earning the backup job in August but was relegated further down the depth chart in favor of the more experienced Neil Caudle. He never got on the field.

In early December Rollison was suspended for an undisclosed violation of team rules. He did not practice or travel for the Outback Bowl.
"We have high standards that we have set and fully expect our team to meet," Chizik said in a press release at the time. "When these expectations are not met, I will make decisions based upon what is best for the entire football team and the Auburn Family."
If Rollison leaves, four players will be in the mix for the quarterback job this spring -- Caudle, Cam Newton, Barrett Trotter and Clint Moseley.
