A Phenix City woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with 42 counts of first-degree forgery, Columbus police said.
Ashley Smith Brown, 26, was arrested around 7 p.m. near Freedom Finance Title Credit Finance, 3580 Buena Vista Road Suite C, police said.
According to police, officers went to the business to talk with the company’s fraud examiner. She told them that money was detected missing, and that an investigation revealed Brown had allegedly cashed over-payment and bankruptcy checks from the business to different people several times. More than $5,000 had been cashed through the business, police said.
Reports show that the alleged offenses occurred between July 1 and Wednesday.

Brown wrote a statement admitting to the allegations, reports state.
Jail records state she is being held on $63,000 bond.
