DASH for LaGrange Inc., a nonprofit formed in 2002 to address inadequate affordable housing in west Georgia, has named its assistant director to head the organization.
Cathy Smith, who previously served as assistant director and capital formations director, was named the organization's executive director Monday, officials announced in a press release.
DASH, which stands for dependable affordable sustainable housing, is billed by its organizers as a "local neighborhood revitalization agency."
It was previously headed by Troup County Commission Chairman Ricky Wolfe, who founded DASH in 2002. Wolfe lead the nonprofit during a restructuring caused by economic issues that resulted from the downturn in the housing market.
Smith, who has been working for the group since 2004, has more than 25 years of experience in housing and community development. Wolfe said in the press release she has been instrumental in leading DASH through its restructuring.
"In the past year in her role as assistant director, Cathy has demonstrated excellent leadership skills and brought new vision to the organization," Wolfe said in the statement. "She is extremely competent at her work and deeply passionate about the DASH mission to eliminate substandard housing by creating new housing opportunities. She will continue to do an excellent job."
