Kyle Carter hit a grand slam and McLendon Hill hit a two-run homer as Columbus scored 10 runs in the top of the third inning. The Blue Devils went on to a 21-7 rout of Thomson in Game 2 of their Class AAA state semifinal series.
Thomson scored four runs in the top of the fourth and went on to beat Columbus 6-2 in Game 1.
Game 3 will be played at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Columbus' Bobby Andrews was hurt in the top of the first when he ran into the wall trying to catch a fly ball that turned into an RBI double. He stayed in for his at bat, but did not take the field in the second inning.
He was taken from the clubhouse on a stretcher with a brace around his neck in an ambulance.
McLendon Hill drove in a run with a single in the bottom of the third inning as Columbus took a 2-1 lead.
Cody Walker drove in a run with a groundout in the bottom of the second inning as Columbus tied the game at 1.
Columbus starter Kyle Carter has 11 strikeouts through five innings.
