An 11-year-old child was struck by a car while trying to cross the street in front of St. Mary's Magnet Academy, according to Columbus police.
Lt. Mark Starling said the boy was part of a group of children crossing St. Mary's Road after attending a function at the school on Friday. The boy didn't look when he crossed the road, Starling said, and was hit by a Ford Explorer heading eastbound.
Starling said the boy ran into the side of the car as he crossed the street and injured his left leg.
"It's nothing life-threatening, but he does have a severe leg injury," he said.
The boy was transported to The Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the vehicle was not charged, because it was a pedestrian violation, Starling said.
