Columbus garbage truck driver accused of selling pot to inmates

A garbage truck driver for the city of Columbus was arrested Monday on accusations he sold marijuana to inmates, authorities said.

Anthony T. Hubbard, 37, faces one count of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, Muscogee County Jail records state.

According to sheriff’s Maj. Randy Robertson, authorities heard that someone was supplying inmates who work on garbage trucks with marijuana. Deputies approached Hubbard on Monday at his job on Cusseta Road, and he allegedly had drugs on him, Robertson said.

“He was bringing the drugs on the job with him and selling it to the inmates when they asked him,” Robertson said of the suspect. “When he would be approached by someone asking for drugs, he would sell it to them hand-to-hand.”

Hubbard made bond Tuesday, jail records state. He hasn’t returned to work or called in since, said Human Resources Director Tom Barron.
