Columbus courts: Jorom Lupalak Nithan, 40, accused of aggravated child molestation

Jorom Lupalak Nithan allegedly forced himself on a 10-year-old girl between five to 10 times over two years, a detective testified Thursday in Columbus Recorder’s Court.

Police arrested Nithan, 40, on Tuesday at a grocery store where he works as a manager, records state. Facing one count of aggravated child molestation, he pleaded not guilty before Judge Mary Buckner at his first appearance hearing.

The charge stems from a June 2 call to Columbus police from a Michigan state trooper, testified Detective Sherry Ziegler. According to Ziegler, the now 14-year-old alleges that Nithan molested her when she lived in Columbus between 2006 and 2008.

The girl told her father on May 24 when he asked whether anything happened while she lived in Columbus.

“She started crying,” Ziegler said, adding that the girl “pretended to remain asleep” during the attacks.

Ziegler said the girl’s parents are willing to travel to Columbus in regards to the case. Authorities got an arrest warrant, and Nithan was arrested Tuesday morning.

Buckner bound the case over to Muscogee County Superior Court and ordered Nithan held without bond.
