Auburn University instructor to study toxic effects of oil spill

An assistant professor at Auburn University has received a $145,000 grant to study the impact of the recent oil spill.

The grant for Stephen "Ash" Bullard is from the National Science Foundation.

Bullard is an assistant professor in the Department of Department of Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures in Auburn's College of Agriculture.

The 12-month study conducted by Bullard and Middle Tennessee State University Professor George Ben will be conducted in the Gulf of Mexico. The two men will study parasites of fish as biosensors to learn how the toxic effects of the spill impact the marine and coastal environment of Alabama.
