Columbus crime: Police bust gambling operation, seize 11 machines

A burglary call to a Buena Vista Road shopping center on Sunday led to what police called the discovery of an illegal gambling operation.

Officers responded to the area of Buena Vista Road and Lake Rushin Drive around 9 p.m. While investigating, they stumbled upon a back room gambling operation complete with 11 machines, a number of people purportedly gambling and free beer, said Capt. Gil Slouchick.

“It was in the rear of the shopping center,” the captain added. “It has nothing to do with any of the businesses there.”

Ronnie Lockhart, 61, was at the scene at the time. Police charged him with commercial gambling, no business license and no alcohol license, Slouchick said.
