Update: Lowe's fire under control; traffic at Veterans and Whittlesey a mess

A fire at the Lowe's on Veterans Parkway is under control, but the store will be closed until around 5 p.m., according to fire and store officials.

Traffic Veterans Parkway and Whittlesey Boulevard was snarled.

Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the fire shortly after 1 p.m. The fire started in an air conditioning unit on the roof. The unit was being worked on at the time it caught fire, according to Deputy Chief for Operations Robert Futrell.

It took about 10 minutes to bring the fire under control.

There were no injuries and the store was evacuated, Futrell said.
