Columbus woman fatally shot, found in street

A Columbus woman was shot in the back and killed early Saturday, police said.

Diane Patricia Norman, 49, was pronounced dead at 5:50 a.m., said Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Charles Newton.

About 30 minutes prior, police were called to Garden Drive, which is in between Andrews and Cusseta roads. A passing driver had spotted the body in the street and called 911.

Columbus Police Lt. Charles Kennedy said when police arrived, they found Norman with a single gunshot wound to her back. As of Saturday, no suspects had been identified and no arrests had been made yet.

Norman’s body was sent to Atlanta for an autopsy. Newton said those results should be available Monday.
