National PTA encouraging dads to volunteer one million hours at schools

The National PTA is encouraging fathers to get involved in their child's school this year through their One Million Hours of Power program.

The national parent and teacher organization is asking 350,000 fathers and other male role models to volunteer three hours at a school during the 2010-2011 school year to produce one million hours of volunteer work.

Father involvement in schools is associated with a higher likelihood of a student getting mostly A's in school, according to a news release on the event.

The National PTA is also asking dads to participate in its Million Father March by taking their child to school on the first day and walking them to their first class. The first day of classes for most local schools, including Muscogee, Russell, Lee and Phenix City, is Monday, August 9.
