The Fresh Market in Columbus is now open

The Fresh Market, 1591 Bradley Park Drive, in the old Goody's location next to PetSmart, opened at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The Fresh Market is a specialty grocery store that banks on a high level of customer service.

It features a bakery that makes 30 baked breads and 14 different kinds of pies daily. There is a full-service meat counter with a butcher on duty all day. A huge selection of ready-to-serve entrees is made every day and fresh seafood is delivered to the store several times a week. One counter features more than 200 cheeses, both imported and domestic.

At 9:05 a.m., there was a line down the sidewalk, almost to the doors of the pet supply store.

Belma Rodriguez of Columbus, was one of those in line. She was just stopping by, checking out the store before heading out for the day. Rodriguez said she had gone to her first Fresh Market store in Houston last month.

"I'll be shopping here. It's more convenient for me," the Green Island Hills resident said.

The store featured a lot of food samples and the first 1,000 customers received a reusable grocery bag with a sample of The Fresh Market ground coffee on Wednesday.

The store is open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday.

A nice selection of wine is also available.
