Columbus Northern wins Little League Southeastern Regional, Williamsport bound

WARNER ROBINS — Northern Little League is on the way back to Williamsport.

The Columbus all-stars secured the trip to the Little League World Series with a 9-2 win over Florida Friday night in a loud and decidedly pro-Georgia Southeast Stadium.

Florida manager summed it up best moments after his boys lost.

“It feels like I am at a Georgia Bulldogs game,” Mark Muzzi said.

The only difference is this time Georgia won and Florida lost.

It will be familiar territory for Northern and its manager Randy Morris.

Northern, under Morris, won the Little League World Series in 2006.

“I am going to tell the boys no matter what happens in Williamsport, we are one of the 16 best Little League teams in the world,” Morris said. “That ain’t bad.”

Northern rode the arm of Jacob Pate and the a nine-hit attack to the win over Florida, which had been the most dominant team in Warner Robins all week.

This year’s team will travel to Williamsport early next week. Northern’s first game will be at 3 p.m. next Saturday against the Western Regional champion. That game will be broadcast on ABC television. All of its games in Williamsport will be televised.

The team spent the night in Warner Robins and is scheduled to arrive back at Northern’s Psalmond Road park around 11 this morning.
