Starting Friday (Oct. 1) the theaters at Carmike Cinemas’ Ritz 10, will be closed through Dec. 10 for remodeling, said Columbus city manager Daniel Kiegans.
The theater will reopen as Ritz 13 with three additional theaters. Existing theaters will be refurbished with new seats, freshly painted walls and new carpeting, Kiegans said.
Some activities at Hollywood Connection including the skate center, mini-golf and Lieutenant’s diner will remain open through the remodeling process, but Kiegans said changes are planned for that part of the building as well.
Movies, such as family-friendly flicks, that normally would have been shown at the Ritz 10 will screen at Carmike 15 through Dec. 10.
Kiegans said details about the remodeling project including concession area changes and the possibility of a “BigD” theater experience were still being worked out.
Early this year, Carmike launched its “BigD” upgrade at Carmike 15 at Columbus Park Crossing. Screens were enlarged and leather seating was installed.
Carmike 15 upgrades included an auditorium with a wall-to-wall screen measuring 78-feet wide and 35-feet tall, custom luxury seating, the latest in 7.1 surround sound and digital projection for 2D and 3D features.
