Lakebottom razor suspects and a 3rd man now face arson charges in Phenix City

Both men suspected of taping razor blades to the Lakebottom playground and setting a home and dumpster on fire in Columbus now face arson charges in Phenix City, police said.

Derek Kyle Fullum, 21, and Chad Adrian Adams, 19, both of Phenix City, and Gary Levon Bryan, 18, of Columbus, face first-degree arson and third-degree burglary charges in connection with the April 17 fire at the Garner Chapel CME church, 10 Old Opelika Road, said Phenix City Police Lt. George Staudinger.

The pair are accused of starting a fire inside the church, causing moderate damage, he added.

“Recent developments in the case including finger print evidence and statements linked the suspects to this case,” Staudinger said in a release.

Fullum and Bryan were arrested Monday night and accused of taping the razor blades in Lakebottom and setting two fires in the area. Both have pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree criminal damage to property and have $10,000 bond each.

The pair, who are being held at the Muscogee County Jail, are scheduled for Columbus Municipal Court on the Columbus arson accusations at 9 a.m. Friday.

Adams, arrested Thursday, is being held at the Russell County Jail.
