University of Michigan professor Juan Cole will present a lecture, "Engaging the Muslim World," at Auburn University on Oct. 4.
Cole, who is professor of history and director the Center of South Asian Studies at the University of Michigan, recently authored a book by the same name. The book will be the basis of his lecture.
According to information from the university, Cole is an expert on contemporary international affairs related to the Muslim world. He has written about contemporary Islamic movements and has spoke on topics such as the Taliban, Iraq War, al-Qaeda, and politics in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
"There is probably no matter more pressing or consequential for the United States today than our relationship with the Muslim world," Michael Kozuh, an Auburn assistant professor of history, said in a press release. "By bringing in one of the foremost experts on current Muslim history and culture, we have a real opportunity to move beyond the background noise of sound bites and stump speeches that cloud a real understanding of the issues at hand."
The lecture “Engaging the Muslim World” will be held at 4 p.m. in Haley Center 2370. It is free and open to the public.
