A 13-year-old Boaz, Ala., teen died in a one-vehicle wreck after Saturday’s Auburn game as he traveled back home, authorities said.
Peyton Williams, his grandmother and a cousin were riding to Boaz after the football game around 2:40 p.m. CDT when the grandmother apparently lost control of the vehicle in the 10000 block of U.S. 280. The car went into the median and flipped multiple times, ejecting Williams from the back seat, said Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.
Williams’ grandmother and cousin had seat belts on, though Harris said it appears Williams did not. An ambulance took the survivors to the East Alabama Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Deputy Coroner Gene Manning pronounced Williams dead at the scene at 3:40 p.m. CDT, Harris said.
The accident remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers and Harris’ office.
