Columbus crime: Man accused of choking woman in front of child

A Columbus man faces accusations he choked a woman in front of a 9-year-old girl, reports state.

Hercules Gladden Jr., 52, is charged with simple battery, obstructing a 911 call and third-degree cruelty to children, Columbus police said. According to reports, two officers responded to the suspect’s Plateau Drive home around 9:20 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived, a woman told them that the suspect had choked her, tried to stop her from calling 911 and that one of her daughters saw what happened.

Officers then arrested the suspect and took him to the Muscogee County Jail, police said.
