Macon, Ga., crime: Police say Macon man assaulted police officer

MACON, Ga. -- A Macon man faces multiple charges after police say he choked an officer.

The Telegraph newspaper reports that an officer was taking Quentin Mills to a hospital to be treated for a head injury received during an earlier incident.

During the ride, Mills removed one of his handcuffs. Police say that when the officer tried to help Mills from the vehicle at the hospital, Mills assaulted the officer. A hospital police officer saw the incident and helped the officer.

Mills was already charged with aggravated battery and animal cruelty for the incident that led to his head injury.

For the alleged assault on the officer, he also faces charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, felony obstruction and simple battery on EMT personnel.

The officer was treated for a possible neck injury.
