Columbus crime: Midland Middle school student charged with child molestation

A Columbus middle school student has been charged with five counts of child molestation, according to police.

The 14-year-old eighth grader at Midland Middle exposed himself to several students in one of the school's bathrooms, the school district's director of communications Valerie Fuller said.

A student reported it and while the incident was being investigated, other students came forward, Fuller said.

Fuller said she could not say what would happen to the boy because of the incident, but typically, when a student violates the school district's code of conduct, he or she could be suspended, go before a tribunal or be sent to an alternative school.

Lt. Bruce Whitehead said the boy has been released into the custody of his parents and Columbus police are investigating the incident.
